Not getting ahead in your workplace? Ever thought you might not be giving off the right image and subconsciously people might be judging you negatively. Image is important everywhere these days – whether it’s for companies, products or individuals – and nowhere is it more important for the individual than in the work place. Think about when you meet somebody for the first time. One of the most important things you will assess is their appearance – after all it’s what we have to go on before they even start speaking. It’s been said that in the first 5 seconds we make our mind up about somebody so you will want to make sure that someone isn’t thinking bad of you in your office. If this is something you find hard you might want to look to a personal stylist for some advice. They can help you figure out what you need to do to give off the right image.
One tool is to think about what impression you want to give of and then decide how to achieve it. So if you aim to be a board director then you can’t go around in badly fitted jeans and a scruffy t-shirt and expect people to take you seriously. You should look at what CEOs in your industry are wearing. Also, you should think about what is right for you – given your build and skin tone what are the right cuts of clothes and colours that are really going to help you make the most of your appearance. For example if you have broad should  syou don’t want to wear a double breasted suit as that will make you look even wider. Instead you should wear a single breasted suit that has narrow lapels – so the effect here is that it is slimming and elongating the appearance of your upper body. Equally if you are quite short then you should consider ways of how making your legs look linger – there are various ways of achieving this such as dressing top to toe in the same colour. In big cities e.g. a New York, Paris or London personal shopper can be helpful here so that you don’t have to struggle to work all this out for yourself. But you could also take a friend with you – providing they have a good eye for these things. If you get it wrong remember that you would harm your chances of success in the workplace and it won’t be down to your talent but how you look. Your colleagues will also be working hard to improve their image so you cannot leave such things to chance It’s time to take action and improve your look so that you stand out in your office for all the right reasons.
